I spent five months reporting on the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes public defenders office as part of an annual project through my university. Each year, teams of print and photojournalism students travel to Montana’s seven Indian reservations to investigate and document in-depth stories on a single topic of importance to the state’s Native population. In 2018, we focused on government to government – sovereignty under the new administration.
